Case Study: Restoring a Smile Worn Down by Teeth Grinding

The Challenge

This patient came to us unhappy with her smile due to severe teeth grinding, which had worn down her teeth and altered their natural shape.

The Solution

After digital impressions, a full set of aesthetic photographs, clinical examination, and an in-depth interview, we determined that her bite mechanics were unbalanced, causing excessive wear on her front teeth. To restore both function and aesthetics, we created a mock-up to design the ideal shape and position of her teeth.

First Visit

Using the mock-up as a guide, we prepared her teeth in a highly conservative way, following modern minimally invasive dentistry standards. Temporary restorations based on the mock-up were placed, allowing her to test both the bite and aesthetics.

After reviewing photos together, we discussed different aesthetic options and custom characterizations to ensure her smile matched her preferences.

Final Result

Our lab fabricated the final restorations, which were bonded just five days later. We made precise bite adjustments and had the patient test them during daily activities and meals. At her follow-up visit, only minimal refinements were needed.

Now, she is proud of her new smile and relieved to have stopped grinding thanks to her corrected bite and the protective devices we provided.
