Natural Aesthetics & Bite Protection:
Replacing Dull Porcelain with High-Characterization Zirconia
The Challenge
Our patient was deeply unsatisfied with his existing smile. His current lithium disilicate (porcelain) veneers appeared dull, opaque, and unnatural.
Beyond the aesthetics, a clinical evaluation revealed a more serious functional issue: severe wear on his lower incisors.
This “silent” bite problem was not only destroying his natural tooth structure but also threatening the longevity of any future dental work.

The Solution
Aesthetic Sophescence meets Functional Security
After a comprehensive Digital Smile Design (DSD) and 3D imaging, we developed a two-part strategy:
Material Upgrade: Replace the eight existing veneers with High-Translucency Monolithic Zirconia. Unlike his old porcelain, Zirconia offers superior strength and allows for “micro-characterization”—mimicking the warmth and light-play of natural enamel.
Muscle & Restoration Protection: To stop the wear on his lower jaw and protect his new upper veneers, we integrated a custom Occlusal Splint into the treatment plan. This device relaxes the masticatory (chewing) muscles and prevents the harmful “engagement” of teeth during sleep.
The Process: A 7-Day Precision Workflow
The Mock-Up: We began by fitting a plastic version of the new design. This allowed the patient to verify the “personality” of his new smile before we removed the old restorations.
The Design Lab: Once the foundations were refined, the patient met with our master technicians. Together, they selected specific aesthetic “characterizations”—adjusting the texture, color shade progression, and translucency to ensure a look that was vibrant yet indistinguishable from natural teeth.
The Protection: On the final day, after bonding the Zirconia veneers, we delivered custom-milled occlusal splints.

The Result
The patient left with a bright, vital smile that feels and looks natural.
More importantly, his bite is now protected, ensuring his new restorations remain free from fractures or excessive wear for years to come.
The cost for this case, including consultation, smile, design, eight zirconia veneers, occlusal splints, and x-rays, was $4600.
